Samsung Galaxy S4 Tipped for February 2013 Release

Samsung Electronics is one of the leading Android smartphone manufacturers to challenge the likes of iOS creator Apple and other smartphone heavyweights in the market including Nokia, Sony and HTC with its latest flagship device – Samsung Galaxy S3.

However, now the South Korean giant seems to be in the spotlight again for the successor of Galaxy S3 – the Samsung Galaxy S4, which is scheduled to hit global stores in February 2013. Reportedly, Samsung has begun production of the application processor that will power its next-generation flagship device.

If rumors are to be believed, the next-generation flagship smartphone is said to be unveiled at a European technology expo this winter, company officials and local parts suppliers, according to the latest Korea Times.

As per the report, Galaxy S4 is expected to be released during the first half of 2013, featuring the first-ever “system-on-a-chip.” The rumored redesigned chip will be a quad-core processor based on the Cortex-A15 design. According to Digital Daily, the new processor is currently codenamed “Adonis.”

The term “Adonis” is derived from a Greek mythological figure that was known to be beautiful and youthful. Samsung chose this word to describe the high performance of the device.

The first rumors related to Samsung Galaxy S4 emerged in the tech media world in mid-September when the Korea Times reported that the phone would debut at a European technology expo this winter.

“Samsung is ready to unveil the next Galaxy smartphone – the Galaxy S4 – at early next year’s Mobile World Congress (MWC) in the Spanish city of Barcelona,” a Samsung official who remained unnamed said to the Korean news source.

Further, speculations have suggested that Galaxy S4 will be Samsung’s “most powerful” smartphone and will land with enhanced hardware and software features to compete in the aggressive smartphone market. Adding to that, executives from Samsung’s parts suppliers said the handset will “definitely use” LTE networks.

Ongoing rumors also have predicted that Samsung Galaxy S4 will be uncovered by the South Korean giant boasting a larger display than Galaxy S3, which will be around 5-inch OLED display.

Meanwhile reports have also claimed that Galaxy S4 will be offered in 16GB, 32 GB, 64GB and even 128 GB variant and will also come packed with 3GB RAM, 3,200 mAh battery, and a Skype-ready 1.9 megapixel front-facing camera.

However, the anticipated price of the successor of Galaxy S3 still remains a mystery

Apple will Release New Tracking Tool for the Apps Soon

Apple Inc. is planning to release a new way for mobile app developers to track who uses their software, according to people briefed on Apple's plans, the company's latest attempt to balance developers' appetite for targeting data with consumers' unease over how it is used.
The new tool, which could be detailed in the coming weeks, aims to better protect user privacy than existing approaches, these people said.
It comes after Apple last summer rattled the mobile industry by saying it would stop allowing app makers to use a unique identifier embedded in iPhones and iPads to track users across different apps. So far, the company hasn't aggressively enforced that policy.
Many mobile companies rely on what is called the Unique Device Identifier, or UDID, to serve ads and gather data—like location and preferences—as people move between apps. But some privacy advocates argued that the string of numbers, which are anonymous, could be coupled with enough data to identify individuals.
How Apple's new technology works and what it will allow developers to track remains unclear. One of the people briefed said that the new anonymous identifier is likely to rely on a sequence of numbers that isn't tied to a specific device.
An Apple spokesman declined to comment.
Since saying it would phase out UDIDs, the Cupertino, Calif. company—gatekeeper to almost 600,000 mobile apps—has been mum about how it plans to do so.
Meanwhile, developers and mobile ad networks have been evaluating various workarounds, worried about losing millions of dollars in revenue if they can't target users with mobile ads. Companies also say they need a way to recognize users in order to customize content and preferences. None of the new workarounds, which include methods like tracking based on an ID in a phone's wireless networking hardware, have taken off.
"Everyone is waiting for Apple to do something," says Lars Albright, the chief executive of mobile-marketing company SessionM and a former executive in Apple's iAd division. "There are a lot of different viewpoints in the industry. We don't need more confusion. We need less."
When Apple plans to discuss the new tracker remains unclear. But developers could receive some clues next week at the company's developer conference in San Francisco, when they are expected to receive an early version of Apple's next mobile operating system.
Developers are also expecting Apple to unveil new models of its MacBook portable computers at the event, along with software enhancements such as Apple's own mobile mapping service and updates to its online storage and syncing service iCloud

HTC Tube - a concept phone

How about an all-in-one device that combines the functionality of a smartphone, laptop, and a tablet? Meet the HTC Tube. It’s a “cartridge-powered notebook, a multimedia laptop using both the cartridge tablet and a keyboard accessory; there’s also a basic phone integrated for quick answering, a stick handset.” No word yet on if this concept will become a reality.

We’ve seen quite a few concept devices in our time, some definitely deserve a place on the store shelves, whilst others… well umm, say no more. But it looks like the HTC Tube concept is most definitely one we would like to see on the store shelves.
The design of the HTC Tube is by Antoine Brieux, who has shown us some amazing designs in the past and has almost definitely designed something quite amazing with the HTC Tube concept.

HTC Sense is the UI of choice, with the Tube Phone maybe providing its 3.2, 5 or 12 megapixel camera in different configurations. The design is absolutely brilliant and sets it apart from all other modular devices out there. Any company would be crazy not to invest in such amazing gear.
